The collective PRAESENZ was founded in 2007 by leading classical music interpreters of the younger generation, to perform works from the 20th and 21st centuries. The performance of challenging works by contemporary composers is central to the work of the ensemble, as well as a pedagogical engagement and the realisation of less-known works to the concert stage.

The members of PRAESENZ are interpreters with wide-ranging experience from international festivals, institutions and well-known ensembles such as Ensemble Contrechamps, Ensemble Modern, Klangforum Wien, musikFabrik und ELISION Ensemble.

Ensemble appearances have led PRAESENZ to the ZKM Karlsruhe, Ballhaus Naunyn Berlin, Robert Schumann Saal Dusseldorf, Villa Musica Mainz, Festival Hudební Forum Hradec Králové, as well as Contempuls Prague (CZ) among others. In June 2010, PRAESENZ was in-residence at the International Summer Course for New Music Performance Tzlil Meudcan under the direction of Chaya Czernowin and Steven Takasugi in Israel.
